Our customer’s goal was to line an existing 1-acre pond so that it would hold water, be aesthetically pleasing, and incorporate a stone perimeter for filtering so that it could be used for recreation.
The project began with draining and cleaning the existing pond, installing one piece of Permalon Woven Liner, and establishing a rock shelf around the perimeter for setting large fieldstone boulders to keep a clean looking edge. We constructed a wetland intake area, with the look of a beach, for people to gather.
The filtration aspect of this pond project was especially important. We used 100 tons of stone, through which four 5-horsepower pumps pulled the water. Water was also pumped to the waterfall area through more stone to create a waterfall. A wetland bog area was designed and installed with more than 100 different aquatic plants that filter water naturally. A floating composite dock and a pump house to house the pumps were constructed. Finally, natural bacteria and dye were added to the pond to prevent algae buildup.
