Job Description

Reports To: Construction Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Directs and supervises the safe work of assigned construction workers and works as a team member in a professional manner by performing the following duties.

Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Ensures work schedules run smoothly and are completed in an efficient manner including, but not limited to, brush removal, bed preparation, plantings, walkways, retaining walls, lighting and water construction as well as any other duties assigned to that particular project. This includes construction interior remodeling projects.
  2. Assist with the delegation of work orders and instructions to maintenance staff in a timely manner this includes resolving problems and discrepancies with jobs and/or interacts with management to amend the issue as well as answers customer inquiries regarding jobs as needed.*
  3. Operates and cares for all landscaping equipment including skid steers, tractors, saws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers and various hand/power tools, trucks in accordance with approved operating requirements and safety procedures.*
  4. Wears appropriate clothing and safety equipment in accordance with approved procedures.*
  5. Communicates equipment and truck problems to management immediately.*
  6. Cares for all hand/power tools and personal equipment in accordance with approved procedures.*
  7. Cleans and provides maintenance to operating machines in accordance with approved procedures between job sites and at the end of the day.*
  8. Ensures all equipment is secured on and off the job site including while in transport.*
  9. Protects items in the work area from damage due to flying debris from equipment.*
  10. Reports any safety related issues with the equipment or construction workers to management.
  11. Reports all injuries and occupational related illnesses immediately to management.*
  12. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of all required records and reports in an accurate and timely manner to include hourly labor performed by landscape workers.*
  13. Adheres to time clock procedures and record-keeping/timesheets, job reports, safety rules and regulations, equipment operations, equipment maintenance and proper landscape procedures in accordance with company training procedures.*
  14. Attends and participates in scheduled training sessions as required.*

Education/Experience

AA Degree; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed by uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses

Valid Driver’s License required to operate/drive company vehicles. Must meet insurance underwriting requirements.

Equipment

Operates a variety of trade tools including standard truck transmission. Supplies own trade hand tools, gloves, and weather protected outer gear.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists in the direction of supervising employees in the Construction Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds, lift and/or move occasionally up to 150 pounds. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
